Harvest festivals honor the gods of fertility with parades, plantation tours, tasting competitions and delectable samplings of the best of local produce. O’ahu serves up a feast of food and music at the Taste of Honolulu festival - over 30 bands on the last weekend in June. The Big Island plays host to the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival, the Kona Brewers Festival and the Aloha Poke weekend. On Maui, the East Maui Taro Festival pays homage to the sacred traditional dish of poi, incorporated into the various ethnic cuisines. The American culture is also well represented with Easter egg hunts, Super Bowl parties and Thanksgiving dinners – all with a Hawaiian twist. |
