Another small village gracing the Windward Coast is Hau’ula, framed in the shadow of green hills and towering Norfolk pines and best known for one of the most rewarding hikes on the island - with three trails to choose from.
The relatively easy Hau’ula Loop Trail is revered by locals and travellers alike for its magnificent views, and the stillness that is afforded in this pristine environment where only birds sing and wild orchids flower in profusion. The Papali Trail is also known as Ma’akua Ridge Trail and the Ma’akua Gulch Trail follows the streambed to its gentle waterfall.
Back at sea level the town has a smattering of shops, eateries and galleries to satisfy the need for creature comforts.
