Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve is located about 10 miles east of Waikiki just off the main coastal road and has always been reveled for its beautiful, serene surroundings. The dual county nature preserve and state underwater park of Hanauma Bay has undergone a magical transformation from over-fished waters to an ever-regenerating sub-terrain environment teeming with colorful marine life.

Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve is Hawaii's first Marine Life Conservation District and is home to some of the most colorful, unique marine life in the world. This pristine reef ecosystem is one of the premier snorkeling spots in the main Hawaiian Islands.

The Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve has a lot more to offer than just fascinating marine life, it was formed through geological activity and as a result has lots to offer in the way of Geology. The Hawaiian Islands also have many unique species of Coastal Plants, and happens to be home to many migrating species of birds.

Further Information

For our summer session, Hanauma Bay is open daily from 6:00a.m. until 7:00p.m. except on Tuesdays. We are closed all day on Tuesdays. On the second and forth Saturdays of each month, Hanauma Bay remains open until 10:00p.m. For our winter session, Hanauma Bay is open daily from 6:00a.m. until 6:00p.m. except on Tuesdays. We are closed all day on Tuesdays. On the second Saturday of each month, Hanauma Bay remains open until 10:00p.m.

Special Features

  • The lookout offers fantastic views over the whole of the coral reef that extends across the reef and brings new understanding of the need for preservation.
  • Koko Head Regional Park, which encompasses the area, sports Koko Crater, Halona Blowhole, notorious Sandy Beach, and many scenic drives through enchanting countryside.
