Overview

Kailua is the largest and windiest town on the Windward Coast. The gentle breezes or the bracing winds is in fact the main drawcard for visitors who make the most of the elements by enjoying windsurfing, kitesurfing and kayaking.

Kailua beach is picture perfect, the sands are white, the water is not only a beautiful turquoise; it is calm, gentle and swimming is possible all year round.

Honolulu is only a short drive away but you may find the restaurants, cafes, entertainment and shopping in Kailua will satisfy your retail needs and hunger pains.

Things to do

  • Take to the beach and make the most of the breeze; have a windsurf.
  • Jump in the car, only a 15 minute drive to Honolulu.
  • Kailua Beach Country Park is an ideal family swimming area year round.
  • Visit Ulupo Heiau and marvel at the 30ft temple made from stones.
  • Hike to the top of the Heaiu for a view of Kawainui Marsh (one of Hawaii's largest habitats for endangered waterbirds).
