Worth a look

Cute house, lacks privacy

Posted by calagal from Dallas TX, United States

We stayed at this guest house during the summer of 2008. The house is very cute, well furnished, competitively priced and the on-site owners are very pleasant. However, there were a few matters significant enough to our preferences/needs to keep us from renting it in the future.

It is very bright and airy because there are lots and lots of windows which is great until the sun goes down. Many of these windows have no covering at all (even in the bathrooms!) and others are covered only with sheers. The bedrooms have nice tabbed curtains made from white sheets, but not all are wide enough to cover the windows. You cannot get from the master bedroom to the upstairs bath without walking in front of a lot of uncovered windows. This may not be a problem for others, but the fish bowl feeling was too much for us.

The internet connection when we were there was dial up. This may have been corrected by now, but at the time the owners did not think it was important. It was important to us so we had to make other arrangements.

The house is located right on the street so anything going on in the street reverberates throughout the house because the windows have to be open all the time. This includes garbage trucks at 7:00 a.m. or kids playing basketball just below the master bedroom window at midnight.

It is NOT "absolute beachfront" as indicated in the description on this website. It is 145 yards (I measured it on Google Earth) down the street and a public access right of way - - which is still very convenient, but it is not beachfront. You do not have to cross any major streets, though. That's a plus.

But, the biggest disappointment was simply the word "poolside" in the name of the property. We thought we were paying for a guest house that was "beside" a pool. The pool can't even be seen from the guest house. You have to walk around the main house to the opposite side. We didn't use the pool once.

The guestbook was signed by many visitors who loved the property. We didn't love it, and these are the reasons why. I hope they are helpful to you.
