Overview

When the ‘surf’s up’ on North Shore it breaks with vital energy from November to February in places with evocative names such as Avalanche, Pyramids, Himalayas, Fuji’s and Hammer Heads. Definitely not for the feint hearted!

For the more culturally oriented, Hale’iwa also presents an easy blend of traditional, diverse ethnicities, New Age alternatives and artists’ colonies of various persuasions. Island hoppers and day-trippers are well catered for and swimming is safe all year round.

Things to do

  • Orientate yourself with a visit to the integral North Shore Surf & Cultural Museum.
  • Take a dive into the ocean, a hike along the shoreline, or a bike into the hinterland.
  • Chill out at any of the numerous little cafes and eateries that dot the beachfront.
  • Visit the Protestant church with its 7-dial clock, built for Queen Lili’uokalani in 1832.
  • Take to the water at any one of 3 beach parks, well-equipped with picnic and sporting facilities.
