Pearl Harbor

From the jewels of the sea to the dogs of war the history of Pearl Harbour holds a broad fascination for all who care to know of the fateful day when the US Pacific Fleet was attacked over the Ko’olau Mountains in 1941.

Various memorials, museums, monuments and parks bear testament to a time that changed the world as we knew it into the world as we know it now - with a few developments in-between of course!

And somewhere down the line there is time to reflect on peace and healing in indigenous depictions of an earlier simple life, and in the natural environment - with Diamond Head Crater holding court in the distance of time and space.

Things to do

  • Pay homage to the loss of 2335 US soldiers on a boat ride to the USS Arizona Memorial.
  • Learn about kamikaze efforts and torpedos at the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park.
  • Tour the ship that hailed the end of WW1 when MacArthur accepted surrender on board.
  • Do it boot-camp style on a rugged trek and overnight camp on the Waimano Trail.
  • See what it’s really all about at the multi-cultural historic site of Hawaii’s Plantation Village.
