Ending in the hills above Honolulu and located close to Waikiki is the Manoa Valley, a lush oasis of rainforest, trails and falls, steeped in a peace and tranquillity not often found on city limits.
An easy hour takes you on a lovely hike through moist fern glens, towering eucalypts, African tulip trees and deep ancient woods over a streambed leading to a steep fall which cascades into an inviting pool. A quick detour has you on the Aihualama Trail with sweeping valley views from bamboo and banyan forests and connections with other trails into the enchanting Tantalus and Makiki Valley regions.
And if all this natural beauty is not enough, the actual university town of the valley has a host of cultural, creative and culinary alternatives to tempt even the most discerning traveler.
