Whilst it may be the largest town in upcountry Maui, Pukalani is primarily a stopover for those heading to the more alluring attractions of Haleakala.

Nonetheless, it is a pretty place that lives up to its name - meaning ‘heavenly gate’ - and affords the convenience of a bank, supermarket, post office, coin laundry and gas station in town, and an 18-hole golf course with magnificent views just beyond.

Things to do

  • Stock up for your magical mountain mystery tour if you’re heading for the Haleakala sunrise.
  • Pick up some sublime sushi for lunch at the stall near the supermarket en route to your destination.
  • Breakfast at Aha ‘Aina Upcountry Café on eclectic dishes of traditional, European or Tex-Mex cuisine.
  • Test your skills at the driving range at Pukalani Golf Course whilst taking in the stunning scenery.
