Easily accessible through its highway links to both Upcountry Maui and Hana the old sugar town of Pa’ia degenerated with the industry in the 1950’s only to be brought lustily to life in swirls of color and impressive refurbishment a decade later.

Today it is the premier windsurfing destination in Hawaii, hosting many championships of international standing and boasting high quality retail outlets and a range of cuisines to die for - all within walking distance of its many attractions.

Things to do

  • Surf or windsurf the wild waters of Ho’okipa Beach if you’re a pro, watch from safety if not!.
  • Take a leisurely stroll through the vibrant town with its painted wooden buildings and pretty aspect.
  • Shop for originals at unique shops which sell anything from hula gear to exotic apparel.
  • Visit Maui Arts Guild artists’ collective for the best of handmade local art and crafts.
  • Indulge the palate in an unsurpassed culinary experience before hitting the nightspots for some action.
