Hairpins, switchbacks and one-lane bridges make up the narrow road that winds its way through stunning scenery past Ohe’o Gulch at the southern boundary of Haleakala National Park en route to the small village of Kipahulu.
Established as a sugar town in the 1890’s, it gave rise to a ranch-style community after the closure of the mill and today is a mish-mash of opulent estates and modest little houses among a nearby backdrop of cascading falls and verdant forests.
