Halfway to Hana Ke’anae Valley sweeps from the edge of Haleakala Crater to a flat peninsula birthed from a late volcanic eruption and attested to by its black lava shores and rugged coastline.
The seabird colony of Mokumana Island is visible from the coast and Ke’anae Peninsula Lookout gives pretty views of Ke’anae proper.
Ke’anae Village itself is a tiny township dedicated to tidy taro fields watered by a meandering stream - and free-range livestock bestows it with a truly rustic country ambience.
