Occasionally impassable, the rugged, mainly dirt road of Pi’ilani Highway to Kaupo is an adventure trail in itself where intrepid travelers can work their way to ancient temple ruins and pristine beaches via towering cliffs and amazing views through the deep valley of Kaupo Gap.
Civilization is characterized by the emergence of mango trees, banyans and bougainvillea that give way to guava groves and pandanus at the approach to true cowboy country in the ranch town of Kaupo.
