Distinctive for its stringent adherence to Hawaiian culture, Hana was once the ancient hub of Maui with the village being the preserve of royalty, chiefs and dignitaries from around the island.
Its predominant rural character is enhanced by fertile green pastures, remnants of its once-flourishing sugar cane industry, and Hana Ranch which makes up its commercial center. Whilst accommodation alternatives are many it is a sleepy town best utilised for some serious R & R in leisure activities rather than in pursuit of a hectic nightlife.
On the other side of it all is a dramatic black lava coastline embracing lovely beaches of black and red sand amid the inviting waters of the turquoise sea.
