The award-winning Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum, located next to Hawaii’s largest working sugar factory in the historic plantation town of Puunene, Maui, is dedicated to preserving and presenting the history and heritage of Maui’s sugar history.
The Museum is a fantastic repository of information, and presents a number of exhibits about one of the most significant and influential periods in Maui’s history. The establishment and growth of the industry is charted, and the museum looks at sugars’ influence on the development of Maui’s water sources and rich multi-ethnic make-up. Intriguing displays on the inner workings of a sugar mill and outdoor displays of plantation equipment are features.
The Museum opened its doors to the public in 1987. Since then, it has received local, state and national recognition for its exceptional work, and frequently serves as a resource for other educational ventures.
