Historic Hanapepe; if some of the sights seem familiar here it could be that you have seen them in the films Jurrasic Park and The Thorn Birds. Hanapepe means 'bay crushed by landslides.'

The town itself oozes charm and character and is still rebuilding itself after the devastation of hurricane Iniki in 1992. Half of the town's old wooden buildings were destroyed but the essence of the traditional Hawaii still remains.

Things to do

  • Brave the Swinging Bridge crossing the Hanapepe River.
  • Just beyond the salt ponds is Salt Pond Beach Park, have a bbq, picnic or swim.
  • Explore tradtions on an art gallery tour.
  • Revel in the brilliant views from the Hanapepe Valley Lookout.
