Definitely one of the less known treasures of Kaua’i, the tiny village of Anahola gives rise to hidden pockets of culture, commodity and community should you care to delve beneath the surface and stay awhile.

Again, a diversity of ethnicities comprise a cohesive group of people who understand and respect the old ways without precluding the promise of progress – to acceptable degrees of course.

In terms of natural attractions the various beaches and beach parks, cooling waterfalls and tranquil scenery are beyond compare, particular if small children feature prominently in the equation. This is the place to romp and play with ne’er a care in the world!

Things to do

  • Lounge around beneath shady coconut trees by the protected reef of Anahola Beach Park.
  • Add to the charm of an environment devoid of worldly concerns with a Moonbath Massage.
  • Take the kids to view Hole in the Mountain, a waterfall created by the throw of a giant’s spear.
  • Drive the Ko’olau Road loop through scenic turf to idyllic Moloa’a or Larsen’s Beach.
  • Stop off for fruit, flowers, ice shaves and local Hawaiian fare at roadside stalls along the way.
