Idyllic jungle scapes with sweeping ocean views characterize this small town that serves also as the commercial center of upcountry Kona Coast.

Papaya, banana, lychee and plumeria grow wild in the tropical climate and the region is known as one of the better snorkeling and kayaking destinations on the island.

Originally over 40 sacred heiau or temples graced the area, hence the name Kealakekua, meaning ‘Path of the Gods’. Today it is still a heavenly retreat.

Things to do Step back in time with Kona Historical Society Museum’s photos, memorabilia and informative staff

  • Visit Amy Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden housing endemic, indigenous and introduced species.
  • Take a tour of the Kona Coffee Living History Museum’s homestead, mill and Japanese bathhouse.
  • Enjoy a good breakfast at the deli, fresh seafood at the café, and sweet sensations at the bakery
