Waimanu Valley & Muliwai Trail

Do not be fooled by the gentle shaded path weaving past green pastures to one side and picture postcard fishing boats to the other.

Leading from Waipi’o Beach to the majesty of the isolated and hazardous terrain of Waimanu Valley, the Muliwai Trail becomes increasingly challenging with steep gradients and tricky river crossings and is definitely only for the more adventurous among us. Facilities are primitive so make sure you are well-equipped with all the essentials

Tourists are few and far between and hikers will mostly be immersed in perfect solitude amid a remote and pristine beauty that lends itself to reflection.

Things to do

  • Camp at the wooded region near Waipi’o Beach which has no amenities but much charm.
  • Alternatively, camp in Waimanu Valley itself which has fire pits and composting toilets.
  • For an enthralling and challenging experience of the elements – just do it!.
