Along Hawaii’s lush northern shores and aquamarine waters the Hamakua Coast winds its way from the dramatic cliffs of Waipi’o Valley to picturesque Laupahoehoe with cantilevered bridges, ravines, gulches, streams, rivers, waterfalls and wild sugar cane fields dotted in between.
Highway 19 is an engineering feat that spans the coastline, with many sidetracks affording pristine scenic views from the road. Recreational areas, nature parks and hiking trails abound for the more active and adventurous.
