Golf Tournaments Kaua‘i is where the golf elite meets at the end of each year for the annual PGA Grand Slam of Golf, the tournament where the winners of the four major championships – Masters, U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship challenge each other. O‘ahu has more than 40 golf courses a primary reason for why the island is such a popular destination. Waialae Country Club on the southeastern shore of O‘ahu is the scene of the prestigious PGA Sony Open, played annually in January. Kapalua Plantation Course is where the Mercedes Championships is held annually in January. You can visit this elegant resort and play where the champions have played. When visiting Maui, why not take a ferry to one of the neighbouring islands, Moloka‘i and Lana‘i, for a game of a different dimension. Moloka‘i offers two golf courses – Ironwood Hills Golf Club and Kaluakoi Golf Course. Lana‘i has two exclusive resorts – The Experience at Koele and The Challenge at Manele and is an appreciated destination among golfers. Hawai‘i’s Big Island is sometimes referred to as the Golf Capital of Hawai‘i and with 20 magnificent courses scattered around the island this is no surprise. Among the courses is Hualalai Golf Club, the annual scene for the PGA Mastercard Championships. Access to the course is very limited, but if you stay at the Four Seasons Resort Hualailai you are fortunate enough to be able to reserve a tee time and play this championship course designed by Jack Nicklaus. There are plenty of other courses to choose from, ranging from seaside resorts to hillside courses overlooking volcanoes. |
